Charlotte's Circle

Camp Dreamcatcher lost a driving force when Charlotte Bartlett passed away recently. It was Charlotte who encouraged (some might say forced) Patty Hillkirk to create Camp Dreamcatcher in 1995. What started as a one-week therapeutic session and served 53 children has increased to year-round programming for HIV/AIDS impacted youth. Camp Dreamcatcher has served over 5,000 children over the past twenty-one years thanks to Charlotte’s never-ending belief in Patty’s ability to make her dream a reality.

Charlotte understood the Ubuntu Philosophy and she brought this way of being into every interaction she had with students, children and adults. Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that one can’t exist as a human being in isolation. Archbishop Desmond Tutu defines it as: “We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas we are connected and what each one of us does affects the whole world. When one does well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity.”

Charlotte’s spirit touched many hearts, and it is our hope to capture that spirit in “Charlotte’s Circle,” which will support the therapeutic programs and services offered by Camp Dreamcatcher.

We hope that you will support this tribute to Charlotte by making a donation in her memory.
